WOMEN STILL SYMBOLIZE VALIANCE & LIBERTY

The symbols of valor and freedom embodied by women may well stem from the Celtic culture. Although usually attributed to Greece and Rome, out-sized allegories like those shown here make powerful statements through females that never would have been allowed in European empires. Celtic culture revered both male and female heroes; imperials treated females as inferiors or slaves.
